As Ondo State prepares for its off-cycle governorship election, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on political stakeholders and voters to maintain peace and decorum throughout the process.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President urged citizens to exercise their civic responsibilities without fear or intimidation.
President Tinubu expressed his desire for the election to be a true reflection of the people’s will, allowing voters the freedom to choose their leaders democratically.
Commending the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its preparations, the President highlighted the timely distribution of sensitive materials across the state’s 18 local government areas.
He also praised the deployment of security personnel to ensure law and order during the election.
Acknowledging assurances from the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff, Tinubu expressed confidence that security agencies would conduct themselves professionally and adhere strictly to the provisions of the Electoral Act to guarantee a credible electoral process.
The President reminded candidates and political stakeholders that the mandate to govern is a privilege bestowed by the people and must be respected.
He underscored the importance of consolidating Nigeria’s 25 years of democratic governance through free, fair, and credible elections.
The Ondo governorship election is expected to test the state’s commitment to democratic principles and serve as a barometer for Nigeria’s electoral integrity.
