Breaking News: Veteran Nigerian actor Charles Olumo “Agbako” passes on at 101

The Nigerian entertainment industry was thrown into mourning as news broke of the demise of veteran actor, Charles Olumo Abdulsalam Sanyaolu, popularly known as “Agbako.”

The talented thespian, who had been a household name for decades, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, at the age of 101.

Born on July 9, 1923, Charles Olumo began his acting career in the 1980s, rising to prominence with his iconic role as “Agbako” in the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) series “Agbako.”

His portrayal of the lovable, witty, and mischievous character endeared him to audiences across the country.

Throughout his illustrious career, Olumo appeared in numerous films and television shows, showcasing his versatility and range as a comedic actor.

His collaborations with other veteran actors, such as Baba Suwe and Yinka Quadri, produced some of the most memorable moments in Nigerian cinema.

Olumo’s impact extended beyond the screen. He was a mentor to many young actors, sharing his wealth of experience and knowledge to help shape the next generation of Nigerian talent.

His humility, kindness, and generosity earned him the respect and admiration of his peers.

The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), announced the passing of the veteran actor through its president, Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr. Latin.

In the statement signed by Mr. Latin, he confirmed that Agbako, a celebrated figure in the industry, passed away on Thursday, at the age of 101.

According to him: “ This is to announce the passing of Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as AGBAKO. Details of the burial arrangements will be shared at a later time. Good night father.”

Tributes poured in from colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders, celebrating Olumo’s life and legacy. “Charles Olumo was a true legend of Nigerian cinema,” said actor Yinka Quadri. “His passing leaves a void that can never be filled.”

“Agbako’s demise is a great loss to the entertainment industry,” added actress Foluke Daramola-Salako. “He will forever be remembered for his contributions to Nigerian comedy.”

As news of his passing spread, social media platforms were filled with condolences and memories of Olumo’s iconic performances. Fans shared clips and photos of their favorite “Agbako” moments, testifying to the enduring impact of his work.
