Tinubu reshuffles cabinet, appoints 7 new Ministers

In a sweeping cabinet reshuffle, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has discharged five key ministers, including the high-profile Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN, OON.

This action, part of eight far-reaching measures approved by the President, is aimed at reinvigorating the administration for greater efficiency.

Alongside Mamman, other notable figures like Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs, and Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism, were also relieved of their duties.

The dismissal of Prof. Mamman, whose tenure had been marked by significant reforms in the education sector, particularly around tertiary education policies, is the most striking change.

His removal signals a clear shift in the administration’s focus, as Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa has been reassigned from the Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Education, a portfolio now under renewed scrutiny.

Meanwhile, seven new ministers have been nominated to fill the vacant positions, and at the forefront of these nominations is Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the widow of the late Biafran leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu. Bianca, a prominent diplomat and political figure, has been appointed Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Her nomination has been met with both anticipation and curiosity, as her extensive diplomatic experience and personal history bring a unique perspective to Nigeria’s foreign relations.

Other notable appointees include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment. The President emphasized that the new appointments reflect his commitment to setting Nigeria on the path to irreversible growth, urging the newly appointed ministers to bring their best efforts toward the nation’s progress.

As the reshuffle takes effect, all eyes will be on how these changes, particularly the new faces in the cabinet, will drive the Tinubu administration’s agenda and deliver on its promises to the Nigerian people.
