Flood: NEMA delegation visits Ondo

By Our Reporter

Ondo State Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, met with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Abubakar Umar, on Tuesday to discuss the recent flood incident in Ondo City.

The meeting was attended by other NEMA directors who arrived in Akure from Abuja at the invitation of the state government.

After the meeting, the team, accompanied by officials from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and the Ondo State Ministry of Environment, visited Ondo to assess the flood damage.

This visit, which was at the behest of Aiyedatiwa’s government, came after the federal government issued a flood alert warning that 14 states and 31 communities may experience heavy rainfall leading to flooding.

It will be recalled that many major roads including Akure-Ondo expressway, Ondo-Ife road, Ondo-Ore road and major streets in the ancient town were flooded last Friday, leading to the destruction of property worth millions of naira.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has called on stakeholders to take proactive measures to mitigate the negative effects of rainstorms and flooding.

The governor’s meeting with NEMA’s DG aims to address the flood’s impact and find ways to support affected communities.

This collaboration between the state government and NEMA demonstrates the commitment to providing relief and support to those affected by the flood.
