A devastating accident occurred on the Akure-Ondo road, near Olokuta community in Akure, Ondo State capital, late yesterday evening.
The Nigerian Monitor gathered that a Toyota car collided with a bicycle, resulting in the instant death of two students from Federal Polytechnic, Ile Oluji.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Response, Prince Oriade Wellington Adebawo, was said to have responded swiftly to the incident, arriving at the scene within five minutes. However, despite his efforts and those of other road users, the students could not be saved.
Adebawo commiserated with the families of the victims and condemned the reckless driving that led to the accident.
He warned drivers against over-speeding and emphasized the importance of exercising caution on the roads.
Reacting, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC) Ondo State Axis, expressed deep sadness over the loss of the two students.
In a statement signed by its leaders, Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua (Chairman), Oluwanishola Ajibola (Secretary General), and Kehinde Blessing (Public Relations Officer), NANS extended condolences to the families, friends, and classmates of the victims, describing the incident as a “devastating loss” for the student community.
The victims, Chukwu Athanasius and Oladokun Oyindamola, were remembered as individuals with unique talents, aspirations, and dreams.
The association reflected on the fragility of life and the importance of ensuring safety and peace for all.
