The Owa Obokun Ijesa, Oba Gabriel Aromolaran, has joined his ancestors. He was aged 86.
The late first class traditional ruler breathed his last after a 42-year reign as the monarch of Ijesa, Osun State.
His death was announced in a statement by Asiwaju of Ijesa, Chief Yinka Fasuyi, on Thursday in Osogbo.
In his reaction to the news, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State expressed his condolences to the family and people of Ijesa, describing the late Oba Aromolaran as a “father-figure, a pillar of support, and a teacher” who was deeply committed to the development of Ijesa and the state.
Adeleke praised the late traditional ruler for his boldness, candour, elegance, and literary energy, which inspired the people during his reign.
He also acknowledged Oba Aromolaran’s unwavering support for his administration, even in challenging times.
The governor remembered his last meeting with the late Oba, during the inauguration of the Brewery-Palace dual carriage way project, and expressed gratitude that the Oba witnessed a new phase of development for Ijesa before his passing.
Adeleke concluded by saying, “We will miss him, but his impact on our lives and the development of Osun will never be forgotten.”
He offered his condolences to the people of Ijesa, the Owa Obokun Traditional Council, and the immediate family on behalf of the government and people of Osun.
