Arrested #EndBadGovernance protesters released

The protesters arrested last week during the #EndBadGovernance protest in Akure, Ondo State, have been released from police custody.

The group included Kunle Ajayi, the governorship candidate of the African Action Congress in the upcoming November 16, 2024 election in the state.

According to eyewitnesses, the protesters had gathered at the NEPA roundabout but refused to leave when dispersed by security agents.

Mr. Tope Temokun, one of the protesters, confirmed the release on his Facebook page, stating: “Due to pressure from the relentless forces of the struggle, the Commissioner of Police of Ondo resumed office on Sunday, August 11, 2024, to facilitate the release of our detained comrades. At 8:35 pm, six out of the seven arrested protesters in Akure were released, while Patrick Owolabi, the TIB coordinator Ondo, remains in custody on flimsy grounds. We will intensify our campaign to free Owolabi tomorrow, as justice is not justice if it’s cut in half.”

The Ondo State Police Command had attributed the arrest of the protesters to unruly behaviour and the need to profile some of them for suspected anti social vices.
