President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision affirming the constitutional rights of local governments in Nigeria.

The judgement, which grants financial autonomy to local governments, aligns with the President’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” to strengthen grassroots governance and ensure accountability.

In a statement, President Tinubu praised the Supreme Court’s decision, saying it would empower local leaders to deliver people-oriented services and ensure transparency in resource management.

He noted that the judgement would benefit the poor and marginalized, allowing them to hold their local leaders accountable.

The President commended the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), for his efforts in pursuing the case.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding the principles of federalism and building an efficient governance system that works for all Nigerians.

The Supreme Court’s judgement is seen as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s decentralization efforts, enabling local governments to access funds directly from the federation account and execute their constitutional responsibilities effectively.
