Ondo PDP condemns Governor’s appointment of Transition Committees as “Lawlessness”

Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the appointment of transition committees for 18 Local Government Areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The party described the move as “lawlessness” and “impunity,” citing a recent high court judgement that declared the LCDAs “unlawfully created” and “non-existent” in the eyes of the law.

On June 20, 2024, Justice A.O Adebusuoye ruled that the Local Government Creation Law 2023 was unconstitutional, illegal, and null and void.

Despite this judgement, Governor Aiyedatiwa proceeded to appoint transition committees for the LCDAs, which the PDP considers a flagrant disregard for the law.

The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, urged the Governor to respect the laws of the land and desist from actions that embarrass the people of Ondo State.

The PDP’s statement accused the Governor of making the state a “laughing stock” among civilized people.

The opposition party’s condemnation adds to the growing controversy surrounding the Governor’s decision.
