Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has flagged off the disbursement of N1 billion gratuity to local government retirees in the state.

The Governor announced that his administration is reviewing the template for payment of gratuity to retirees to speed up the payment of the backlog owed by the government.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Akure on Tuesday, Governor Aiyedatiwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of retirees, noting that regular payments will continue.

He recalled previous payments made under his administration, including the payment of N1.2 billion to state civil service pensioners in January 2024.

The current batch focuses on LG retirees from 2012 and aims to settle remaining arrears from previous years.

The Governor assured that the payment process prioritizes equity, fairness, and transparency.

He urged those not included in this batch to remain hopeful as the administration continues its efforts to maximize the happiness and welfare of the greatest number of people.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, and the Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philips, praised the Governor’s prompt action and dedication to retirees’ welfare.

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Mr. Johnson Osunyemi, expressed gratitude to the Governor and assured him of the retirees’ support in the forthcoming election.
