Osun monarchs urge FG to repair Ibadan-Ife-Ilesa express road, say it’s “Death Trap”

From John Dike, Osogbo

The Osun State Council of Obas has appealed to the Federal Government to urgently repair the Ibadan-Ife-Ilesa express road, describing it as a “death trap” for motorists.

The council, led by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, made the appeal in a communiqué issued after their monthly meeting in Osogbo, the state capital.

The monarchs noted that the road is a major federal highway that connects several states in the South West and its deplorable condition poses a significant threat to the lives of motorists and other road users.

They urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and fix the road to prevent further loss of lives.

In a related development, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Nomadic Affairs, Hon. Adebisi Maruf Abiodun, assured the traditional rulers of the state government’s efforts to resolve the crisis between Fulani herders and farmers in the state.

He explained the strategies put in place by the government to end the clashes and sought the collaboration of the monarchs in finding a lasting solution.

The Osun Council of Obas responded by calling for mutual collaboration between the herders and farmers and sought laws to guide their operations.

They emphasized that with laws and government intervention, the havoc caused by Fulani herdsmen to farmlands will reduce.
