Address economic hardship, OAU Alumni urges Tinubu

From John Dike, Osogbo

The Osogbo branch of the Great Ife Alumni Association has called on President Bola Tinubu’s government to address the economic hardship in Nigeria.

In a communique issued at the end of the association’s meeting held in Osun state on Tuesday, they urged the government to:

1. Review the national minimum wage to a realistic figure.

2. Reduce commodity prices, basic amenities, and fuel prices.

3. Prioritize security and electricity tariff reversal.

4. Engage in transparent dialogue with labor movements.

5. Downwardly review political leaders’ salaries and allowances.

In the communique jointly signed by the Association’s Chairman, Rev’d ‘Lowo Adebiyi, and Secretary, and Mr Oluwamayowa Fagbohungbe, the association expressed concern for the plight of workers and the impact of the economic hardship on the nation’s workforce.

They also suggested that essential services like fire, health, power, and water should not be shut down during industrial actions, as it adversely affects the vulnerable members of society.
