From John Dike, Osogbo
Dr. Amidu Tadese, the Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC) in Osun State, has clarified that the plan to conduct the 2023 census is still in progress.
Tadese, who spoke at the NPC office in Osogbo yesterday, acknowledged that the previous administration’s timing for the census was unlikely to succeed, given the proximity to the presidential transition.
He expressed concerns that conducting the census under the then outgoing administration might have led to its rejection by Nigerians.
Tadese disclosed that instead, the new government, led by President Bola Tinubu, will take the necessary time to settle in and address the census issue appropriately.
The NPC Commissioner assured that efforts are underway to ensure a thorough and acceptable population and housing census for all Nigerians.
He noted that the commission is building upon the previous administration’s steps, with improvements, to deliver a successful census.
