FG mobilises responders to crashed mining site in Niger

The Federal Government of Nigeria has responded promptly to a mining site collapse in Niger State, mobilizing first responders and rescue teams to the scene.

According to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, seven victims have been rescued, with some injured, and efforts are ongoing to rescue those still trapped.

The government has also launched an investigation into the cause of the accident to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This swift response demonstrates the government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of miners and communities affected by mining activities.

The recent policy announcement making remedial measures for mining pits mandatory for mining licenses is a step in the right direction to minimize such accidents.

The Minister is closely monitoring the situation, and the government is working collaboratively with the mining company, African Minerals and Logistics Ltd, to ensure a thorough investigation and appropriate action.

This prompt response and commitment to investigation are reassuring steps towards preventing such incidents in the future.
