From John Dike, Osogbo
Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon, a prominent Ifa Priest in Osogbo, Osun State, has suggested using traditional Yoruba deities to determine child paternity, instead of DNA testing.
He believes that Yoruba traditional means are more reliable and affordable for many families.
Elebuibon attributes the rise in paternity fraud to the abandonment of Yoruba culture and the adoption of foreign religions.
He highlights that Yoruba culture has its own “traditional DNA” and methods to determine paternity, such as oath-taking before the Ogun shrine, which are cheap and safe.
He also suggests that political office holders should use traditional deities to take oaths of office, to ensure accountability and reduce corruption.
Elebuibon’s proposal aims to promote Yoruba cultural heritage and offer alternative solutions to modern problems.
