Breaking News: Aiyedatiwa wins Ondo APC guber primary (Details of the results)

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo state has been declared winner of Saturday’s governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Aiyedatiwa scored 48,569 to defeat his closest rival, Mayowa Akinfolarin who polled 15,343 and emerged second at the keenly contested election.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, who served as Chairman of the Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Electoral Committee, declared the incumbent governor as winner of the primary election at about 1am, Monday.

The Kogi governor had earlier appealed to all aspirants who participated in the election to set aside their grievances and work together for the party’s success at the poll.

Ododo said, “Now that we have come to the significant end of this exercise, it is my duty to on behalf of our committee declare the winner of the election.”

Quoting relevant sections of the APC constitution where his committee derived their powers, Governor Ododo noted that having been constituted by the National Executive Council of the party, he and his team ensured that elections took place in all the 203 wards in Ondo State on Saturday.

He noted that he could confirm that the direct primary mode adopted by the party served its purpose as all members of the APC in the state were given sense of belonging to freely chose the party’s candidate in the scheduled November 2024 Ondo State Gubernatorial election.

He thereafter gave a breakdown of the exercise as follows:

Meanwhile, the primary election recorded some pockets of violence on Saturday in Okitipupa, Akure, Idanre and Supare Akoko.

The latest addition to the records of violence was revealed by the returning officer of Ifedore local government, Chief Oliver Opala, when he was called to present the election results from his area of assignment, during the collation of results yesterday.

Opala disclosed that all candidates got zero from Ifedore local government because the atmosphere was not conducive for election.

Narrating his experience, he said, he and his team were almost attacked while moving round the local government to see whether people who had taken shelter in their various homes due to sound of gunshots that rent the air could come out for the exercise.

He noted that they had to leave the local government when all attempts to make election possible, proved abortive.
