Subsidy removal: Ondo govt reintroduces free shuttle buses for students

As part of measures to ameliorate the hardship currently being faced by workers and people of the state as a result of the removal of subsidy on petrol, Ondo State Government has approved the reintroduction of the Free School Shuttle Buses for students.

The state government also approved free transportation for workers to and fro their offices.

The Chairman of the Ondo Stare Palliative Strategy and Implementation Committee, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa, made this disclosure in Akure on Thursday, while addressing a news conference.

Akinterinwa, flanked by some members of the Committee and the NLC State Chairman, Mr Victor Amoko, revealed that free shuttle boats equipped with life jackets for students in the riverine areas would also be introduced.

He noted that “all pensioners in the state, both at the local government and state levels, will get ten thousand Naira (N10,000) each, starting from this month of August, till December, 2023.

Akinterinwa who is also the State Commissioner for Finance, said “ On Transport: The government will restore free shuttle busses for students starting at resumption in September, till December 31st.

“Thereafter, affordable rates will be charged from January 2024. We will immediately deploy all existing buses in all MDA’s to serve as free shuttle buses to public servants till December 31st. New CNG Buses will be purchased for public servants for free.”
