Members of the newly inaugurated 10th Assembly of the Ondo State legislative House have been charged to discharge their duties in strict compliance with the Nigerian constitution.
The legislators who were tasked of their roles of calling the executive arm of government to order whenever the need arise, were equally reminded of the trust reposed in them by their constituents.
This charge came from one of the leading opposition political parties in the state, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the wake of the 10th Assembly’s assumption of legislative duties today.
In a statement issued by the State Chairman of the party, Mr Stephen Adewale, he counseled the legislators to be good ambassadors of their people, noting that they should value the votes entrusted in them by their constituents, and therefore not turn themselves to rubber-stamp like members of the 9th the assembly.
Adewale hinted them that people of the state will definitely be expecting nothing below excellent performance, since one good turn deserves another.
He said: “It is a good thing that the country is experiencing transition from one civilian rule to the other as well, the lawmakers in the state should wake up to their task.
“They should all be ready to serve and represent diligently rather than being a rubber stamp or sell out”
The SDP chairman therefore urged them to legislate on policies that are people oriented and accepted by all.
It would be recalled that the 10th Assembly was inaugurated at the weekend, where Mr Olamide Oladiji from Ondo East constituency emerged the speaker.
