Suspected motorcycle snatcher apprehended by victim in front of Osogbo bank

A middle-aged man suspected to be a notorious motorcycle thief has been apprehended in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.

It was reported that the suspect ran out of luck when one of his victims reportedly sighted him on a bike he allegedly stole from him and raised an alarm. Some passers-by got hold of him and he was nearly lynched by a mob before police officers rescued and took him away.

The Nigerian Monitor gathered that the suspect robbed a commercial motorcyclist of his bike at gunpoint, around Kelebe area of Osogbo, some months ago.

He succeeded in taking away the motorcycle, after the owner was rescued by some passers-by who were on their way to Iragbiji.

However, the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday, infront of a commercial bank in Osogbo, when the commercial motorcycle owner he allegedly robbed, raised alarm upon sighting him at the bank.

Reports said the mob that gathered nearly lynched the suspect before police officers rescued and took him away.

It was gathered that the owner of the stolen motorcycle was able to recognise the suspect and confronted him.

The suspect, knowing that the environment was not safe for him, started begging his victim to give way for dialogue.

The two of them later engaged in altercation and in the process drew the attention of other people who were at the bank premises, who came to enquire about what was happening.

The suspect was nabbed and two locally made pistols and some charms were found on him.

It took the intervention of the policemen who came to rescue the suspect from the mob action.

Confirming the incident, the Assistant Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Osun State Command, ASP Theophilus Adekola, said two locally made pistols were recovered from the suspect.

Adekola said the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
