Vehicle conveying inmates injure commuters in Osun

From John Dike, Osogbo

There was palpable tension in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Thursday, as a truck conveying inmates to the State High Court, hit a commercial minibus, injuring two persons.

The incident immediately sparked violent protest, as commercial motorcyclists and some angry youths blocked the popular Olaiya Junction of the state capital in protest.

Eyewitnesses said the correctional truck driver refused to obey a traffic light that had signaled him to stop and in the process, hit a minibus, leaving the driver and one of the passengers injured.

Both the driver and the injured passenger were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The situation was however put under control by police officers drafted to the scene, as they successfully dispersed the protesters, with teargas.
