APC demands immediate redeployment of Osun CP, Longe

… Accuses him of unprofessional conduct.

From John Dike, Osogbo

Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for immediate redeployment of the state Police Commissioner, Mr Patrick Longe, over insecurity situation in the state which has reportedly taken a worrisome dimension

The party said to this end: “We are calling on the Inspector-General of Police to intervene in our plight by urgently effecting the transfer of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Longe, as his best is found out not to be in the best interest of any genuine democratic setting.”

The party said despite several reports of attacks on its members and, leaders in the state to the police command in the state, the police boss and his men have not apprehended anyone even with video and, photos attached to their complaints.

In a press conference held at the party secretariat, Ileri Oluwa area, Osogbo yesterday, the party Chairman, Mr Solooko Tajudeen Lawal, advised security operatives especially the police to act on the complaints of various attacks on its members and leaders, saying no party has monopoly of violence.

“We are sad to inform you that since the tribunal judgement that sacked Governor Ademola Adeleke from office and also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return from him and give same to the winner of the election, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, the members and leaders of our party have not known peace for a day.

Lawal accused the state Governor, Ademola Adeleke of sponsoring thugs that are killing, maiming and attacking its members in the various towns and villages in the state,

He also alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is organizing sponsored protests within the state and beyond in order to whip up a false sentiment that their sacked governor whom the tribunal had affirmed forgery of school documents against, is a saint.

According to him: “It has become the duty and past time of the young and the old ones in the Osun State PDP faction, loyal to the Ede political dynasty to be denigrating the judiciary by calling the members of the governorship tribunal unprintable names with unsubstantiated allegations and claims against them. That is not where we are going as the schism is between the PDP and the judiciary.

“As I speak, almost all the members of our party, the APC, in the Atakumosa-East Local Government Council Area of the state, have been chased out of their towns and villages in the local government by ‘daredevil and notorious PDP thugs’ who are acting the scripts of one Sanya Omirin, the PDP House of Representatives candidate for Ijesa-South Federal Constituency.”

The APC chairman alleged that property of scores of the APC members in Atakumosa-East Local Government Council Area have been wilfully destroyed by the PDP thugs as a ploy to prevent our members and supporters from taking part in the forthcoming general elections.

He stated that some of its members are now hibernating and squatting in Ilesa, Ile-Ife, Osogbo and other towns to evade political attacks.

Lawal hinted that the most pathetic and annoying development is that some of the PDP leaders have formed an habit of inciting the PDP members and thugs against APC supporters at different political fora.

“It was observed that the police have always been looking away when our members are being attacked by the PDP thugs in Osogbo, Ede, Ilesa, Ijebu-Jesa, Ila-Orangun, Ikire, Iwo, Ikirun, Okuku, Ifetedo etc, which make us to suspect and conclude that the police has not been maintaining neutrality in the discharge of their official responsibility. They favour the PDP.

“The funniest aspect of the unsavoury development is that the political hoodlums who were arrested and brought down to the police command in Osogbo, from Ifetedo few days ago were not even allowed to alight from the vehicle that brought them before they were surprisingly left off the hook based on the directive from the top.

“It is based on the totality of the insensitive attitude of the leadership of the Nigeria Police to the plight of members of our party that we are making a clarion call for the transfer of the state commissioner of police, Mr Patrick Kehinde Longe, from our state,” the party insisted.
