Osun tribunal judgement: Protesters storm Osogbo streets, reject verdict

From John Dike, Osogbo

Residents of Osogbo, Osun State capital stormed the major roads on Friday, in protest against the nullification of the governorship victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke, by the State’s Election Petitions Tribunal.

The tribunal had in a split judgment nullified the emergence of Adeleke at the July 16, 2022 gubernatorial election, and declared his predecessor and main challenger, Adegboyega Oyetola as the winner.

The Osun residents, mainly youths who trooped out in large numbers, carried placards with various inscriptions like, “Osun residents reject Oyetola, Imole has come to stay, Tribunal panel is not fair, Olorunda local government says No to Tribunal, and many more.

The protesters who marched through the major roads and had a break at the popular Olaiya Flyover, chanting various songs, said they would not allow injustice of any kind raise its ugly head in the state.

One of the protesters who identified himself as Kehinde Olabode, said the decision of the Tribunal Justices has further heightened the already tensed situation in the state .

He noted that the Tribunal panel did not put into consideration what might be the aftermath of the judgement, considering the fact that the presidential election is around the corner.

Meanwhile, there was heavy presence of security men in the Osogbo metropolis on Friday, as policemen and other sister security agencies were seen trying to forestall any possible break down of law and order .
