The Vice-Chancellor Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina has bagged Integrity Icon of Nigeria award as number three best Vice –Chancellor of the 170 Vice-Chancellors in the country following tremendous achievements recorded in less than two years in Office.
Besides, FUOYE under Fasina’s leadership was awarded number ten of the 170 universities “with highly rated and corrupt- free and most ethically responsible Federal University” in the country.
This was contained in a letter by an International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Centre for Ethics and Self- Valued Orientation (CESVO) while conferring the award of Integrity Icon of Nigeria (IION) on the University’s Vice-Chancellor Prof.Abayomi Sunday Fasina.
The International NGO, CESVO which adjudged Fasina as the third best Vice-Chancellor in the country following his numerous achievements in less than two years in office, said it was impressed by Fasina’s speed at turning the University around in less than two years in office as the fourth Substantive Vice-chancellor of FUOYE.
CESVO’s Chief Executive Officer in Nigeria, Prince Salih Musa Yakubu, said in a discrete and independent survey and investigation carried out on the Vice-Chancellor’s activities and the Institution rated Fasina as the most progressive and hardworking Vice-Chancellor of the over 100 Vice-Chancellors which came under discrete survey by the International organisation.
According to him, Fasina was outstanding in terms of recorded achievements and infrastructural development of the institution in less than two years in office, had no doubt, put him ahead of others while launching FUOYE into a global reckoning within a space of two years in office.
Yakubu said: “One of the most shocking things in the course of our investigation was a series of numerous achievements of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina being recorded in less than two years in office.
“We are impressed with what we saw here at the Federal University Oye Ekiti under your leadership.
“This is why we have found you outstanding and worthy of the award. “And today it’s a privilege and honour to confer on you the title of Integrity Icon of Nigeria (IION).
“We have the certificate of credence which ranks this university among the top ten highly rated corruption-free and most ethically responsible Federal University.
“Prof Fasina scored about 70 marks in Character and integrity as well as other leadership skills and has brought the attributes to bear in administering FUOYE.”
In his acceptance speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina eulogized the CESVO’s director and his team, describing the Integrity Icon of Nigeria award as apt for his determination to make FUOYE one of the best universities in the 21st century both within and globally.
Fasina said: “Thank you very much for this honour and I want to specially thank the Director for Centre for Ethics and Self- Valued Orientation. I want to thank you very much.
“Ours is to make the university number one in the 21st century as there is something we are doing right that makes the students keep applying to the university.
“We have 11 faculties and we have excellent staff and we would keep doing our best with a view to making the university the best in Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, other principal officers of the institution who also bagged the excellence award were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor administration, Prof. Jeremiah Sola Omotola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, the university registrar Mr.Mufutau Adesina Ibrahim, Bursar, Mrs Adebolanle Debo-Ajagunna,and the university librarian, Dr.Isaac Busayo
